Jenae Sorgiovanni – Mum on The Run

Whatever It Takes.

Like many people I have a tale of yoyo dieting and weightloss. I have struggled with my weight since I was in primary school. Bullied at school – I turned to food to comfort me. Fast forward 25 years and I had included Wine in my regime of self pity. It would be nothing for me to consume a bottle of wine each night. Sure there would be a period of a few weeks where I would be “good” and not drink, only to return to my old ways and pile on what I had already lost and then some. Fast forward to a move to Melbourne, a removal from family and habit – I saw this as an opportunity to transform. To bring myself back to the land of the living. Permanently. 99kgs – and refusing to cross that line to the magic three digits – it was time to move on and stop food and alcohol from controlling my life – and start showing my 3 beautiful children (Kaiya, Cooper and Amelie) that there was more to life.

In the last 18 months I have finally discovered the balance, initially thanks to Michelle Bridges and 12WBT I lost 23kgs. It has not been easy – there is really no overnight solution or pill to take. In the past 12 months I have run many a fun run (and have the medals to prove it) – including a couple of half marathons. None I have trained for properly – and as a result I have finished, but not been happy with my result. I have had multiple periods of doubt. In a recent trip home to Perth I picked up a Triathlon magazine (Ironman has ALWAYS been a dream) and decided enough was enough. I had regained 6 kilos, and felt like I was spiraling out of control after 6 weeks of drinking and not stop eating.

I got home and started riding again, running again and swimming – I entered my first Triathlon – the Ironman 70.3 in Shepparton (November 2013) …  Met Phil – and couldn’t have imagined how my life would change. I officially completed my first Sprint Triathlon recently and if the training didn’t have me hooked – the event surely did. I have a huge off season ahead of me and looking forward to getting through a full season of 70.3 before participating in Ironman Busselton in December 2014. My home crowd – I get tingles just thinking about it.

I had belief – but my true belief has manifested since meeting Trent Shaw and becoming part of this amazing team. It is true – surround yourself with those you most want to be.

I look forward to you all joining me on this journey. I also blog about the ups and downs of weight loss, training and events – feel free to come and visit me and introduce yourself!
